Arcelia Tornetta was born in Mexico City to Roberto Elizalde and Hilda Elizalde on 09/27/1955.
In March 1974, Arcelia met Matteo Tornetta while both were vacationing in Acapulco. Matteo proposed that same month they met. Just a few months later, on December 19th, 1974, Arcelia and Matteo were married in Mexico City.
Arcelia and Matteo lived in Mexico City for many years together prior to moving to the U.S.A in 1995 with their son, Mauricio. Arcelia, Matteo, and Mauricio resided in Berwyn, IL until they laid down their roots in their new home in Oak Lawn, IL in 1999.
Once Matteo retired, Arcelia and Matteo made the decision to escape the cold winters of IL and made their way to sunny FL in 2011, where they have resided ever since.
Arcelia loved her family fiercely and nothing brought her more joy than being able to speak with and see those that she cared for so deeply. In fact, recently while discussing “bucket lists”, instead of thinking to go on extravagant trips or seeing or doing “things”, Arcelia had one item on her list….be surrounded by family.
Arcelia was a true “homebody” and truly enjoyed the comforts of home. If not on the phone with one of her family members in Mexico, you would often find her curled up on the couch with her coffee and pastry while watching one of her favorite movies that she probably already watched hundreds of times, but each time reacted as if it was the first. Jurassic Park was always the number one movie of choice.
Animals were always a source of comfort and happiness for Arcelia and a pet was never just a pet, but a true member of the family that she loved dearly. Arcelia loved her golden retriever, Cody, as though it was her actual son and always held the memory of her Cody near after he passed in 2016. Her cocker spaniel “granddaughter”, Betsy, was her pride and joy and would always look forward to the time spent with her favorite girl until Betsy’s passing in 2023. Another fur “granddaughter”, Gracie was brought into the family as of recently. Gracie brought much comfort and love to Arcelia during the difficult times she faced.
Arcelia Tornetta is preceded in death by Roberto Elizalde (Father), Roberto Elizalde (Brother), Sergio Elizalde (Brother).
Arcelia is survived by her husband of 49 years, Matteo Tornetta of Ruskin, FL ; her son Mauricio Tornetta and daughter in law Erin Kobernus of Apollo Beach, FL ; her mother Hilda Arauzo de Elizalde of Mexico City ; sisters Hilda Elizalde de Ruiz of Mexico City (Alejandro), Gina Elizalde de Navarrete of Mexico City (Jesus), Ivette Elizalde of Mexico City; nephews Alejandro Ruiz Elizalde (Brie) of OK, Alan Navarrete (Stephanie) of Mexico City, Fernando De LaGarza of Mexico City.
