John J. Madigan 94 of Lauderhill, Florida formerly of Chicago, Illinois passed away Monday, March 5, 2012 at his home in Florida. John was born in Chicago on January 11, 1918 to John and Ann Madigan. Mr. Madigan, CBS newsman, was the moderator of "Face the Nation." Face the Nation," CBS's answer to NBC's "Meet the Press," premiered November 7, 1954, and for more than forty-eight years has been an important player among the nationally broadcast Sunday morning news programs. Like its ABC and NBC competitors, "Face the Nation" brought prominent and controversial political figures to the station to be interviewed live either before a panel of journalists and, in a later format, by the show's moderator. Mr. Madigan interviewed then Senator John F. Kennedy on March 30, 1958. John is survived by his loving wife Elizabeth Madigan; daughter Amy (Ed Harris) Madigan; sons John J. (Karen) Madigan and James F. Madigan; grandchildren Lily Harris, Kim (Chris) Ennis, and Megan (Michael) Baer; great-grandson Sean Ennis. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, March 8, 2012 at 10am at St. Malachy Catholic Church, 6200 John Horan Terrace, Tamarac, FL 33321. Mr. Madigan will be laid to rest Monday, March 12, 2012 in Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery in Alsip, Illinois.
