Ms. Mary Thomas Kelley was called home by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 23, 2023 following an extended illness. She was 87 years old. Mary was born on January 2, 1936 in Cale, IN to her parents, Albert and Nancy Thomas. Following high school in Linton, IN she attended classes at Florida College near Tampa. She moved to Tallahassee in the 60’s where she raised her children and worked for the Florida Department of Labor.
After retirement she traveled the world except during FSU football season where you could find her with her football group on the first row, 15 yard line of the alumni side every home game right through the 2022 season. She had the gifts of mercy and service that allowed her to always find time to do home visits to those in the community who needed care and support while they grieved or convalesced.
Ms. Kelley is survived by her son Douglas Dawson, her daughter, Coleen Hannah (Tim) Mahler, her grandchildren Troy (Erin) Mahler, Caleb (Lacey) Mahler and Mary Rae (Charles)Schilling, and great-grandchildren Melanie, Landon, Valerie and Benjamin. Surviving also are her twin sister Sue Jones, and brother Thornton (Olga) Thomas, and numerous nieces and nephews. After the Church of Christ, family was everything to Mary. Her faith and her love for family unity allowed her to maintain a wonderful relationship with her ex-husband George Dawson and his wife Joel. She was preceded in death by her son Daniel “Danny” Dawson and her husband Gene Kelley.
Mary never slowed down until she stopped, leaving us with a legacy of compassion, a sense of wonder, and reverence to God. She lived by her Indiana family’s motto, “Blest be the tide that binds.”
