Marjorie Adele Hoffmann

Marjorie Adele Blackshaw Hoffman, 97, passed away in her home in Tallahassee on Sunday, December 1, 2024. She was predeceased by her husband Robert (Bob) Hoffmann, but is survived by their six children: David (Emily) of Miami, FL, Michael (Barbara) of Melbourne, FL, Anne Falcon (Gary) of Union, KY, Catherine Cannon of Jacksonville, FL, Nancy Glisson (Doug) of Tallahassee, FL and Eric (Marcia) of Tallahassee, FL. She was grandma to twelve and great grandma to fourteen.

Marjorie, known as “Marge”, was born on April 2, 1927 in Miami, FL, the only child of Nina Wilson Blackshaw Wagner and Harold Blackshaw. Her father passed away when she was thirteen and then along with her mother, she lived with an aunt and two cousins in Miami.

Upon graduating from Jackson High School, Miami, Marge entered the Florida State College for Women, Tallahassee, in 1945. The school began admitting men in 1947 and changed its name to Florida State University (FSU). She graduated FSU in 1949 with a B.S. in Social Work.

In 1951, she married Bob in Miami where they began their family. Along with raising her children, Marge also worked a few years as a part-time social worker at the Florence Crittenton Home for Unwed Mothers in Miami, and later enjoyed substitute teaching in Dade County Public Schools.

Upon retiring, they moved in 1987 to Tallahassee where they built a house and welcomed visits from friends and family over the years. They also enjoyed camping as well as traveling to Europe, Australia, New Zealand and places in the United States.

Marge enjoyed painting with watercolors and oils, as well as sewing. She was a proponent of exercise and participated 3-4 times per week in the local Jazzercise classes until her early nineties.

Above all, Marge was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandma, and great grandma to her large and blessed family. She will be missed.

Interment will be in February 2025 at Tallahassee National Cemetery.
