She is survived by her husband of almost 36 years, Scott; her son, Jonathan, of Tallahassee; her daughter, Katie, and husband Jared Mynard, of Tallahassee; and her granddaughter, Emma Kathryn Mynard.
Kathy was born in Jacksonville, Florida on October 24, 1957 to James Porter Jones and Grettza Shuler Jones. Kathy and her brother, Rick, were raised in Jacksonville and the family were members of San Jose Church of Christ. She graduated from Wolfson High School in 1975 and obtained her A.A. degree from Florida Junior College. Kathy moved to Tallahassee in 1977 to attend Florida State University, where she obtained her B.S. in Social Work and met Scott. After returning to Jacksonville and working as an insurance adjuster for several years, Kathy and Scott were married on April 3, 1982. They lived in Tallahassee while Scott completed law school and then moved to Colorado Springs in 1984 for Scott's first Army duty assignment. Their son, Jonathan, was born in Colorado Springs in 1985. After completing the active duty obligation, Kathy and Scott moved to Pensacola where their daughter, Katie, was born. They returned to Tallahassee in 1990. Kathy worked as an insurance adjuster for several years, but her true passion was to be a homemaker for her husband and children as well as a beloved teacher at Timberlane Church of Christ preschool for a number of years. Kathy enjoyed playing tennis, volunteering and traveling with Scott and the kids. Kathy and Scott were members of Timberlane Church of Christ for many years and are now members of Seven Hills Church. Kathy had a servant's heart and loved serving others in places such as Hope Community and Chelsea House. Kathy fought cancer hard for 10 years. Through it all she lived her life to the fullest, traveling all over the world with Scott and spending time with her family. She and Scott particularly enjoyed traveling in their Roadtrek van.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 o'clock on Monday, February 19, 2018 at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, 1737 Riggins Road. A funeral service celebrating Kathy's life will be held at 10 o'clock on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at Timberlane Church of Christ, 3569 Timberlane School Road.
If desired, in lieu of flowers a memorial donation may be made in Kathy's name to To Write Love On Her Arms (TWLOHA), twloha.com, or to the Joanna Francis Living Well Foundation, joannafrancislivingwell.org.
