Reverend John W. Ter Louw, age 94, entered into God's rest on Monday, November 10, 2014. There will be a service to remember his life of love and service at Wildwood Church, 100 Ox Bottom Rd, at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 13, officiated by Pastor Bob Evans. The family will receive friends at the church after the service. John Walter Ter Louw was born in Hamilton, Michigan, on March 28, 1920.He was a graduate of Central College and New Brunswick Theological Seminary, and received his Master's Degree in Social Work from Florida State University. John married Jane Van Kempen in 1942 and they celebrated their 71st anniversary last June. They had five children: John Gary, Don, Jay, Jeremy and Janne. Reverend Ter Louw served Reformed and Presbyterian churches for most of his life in New York, Tallahassee, and Wisconsin.He also worked for the New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children and at the Florida State Hospital. Even when working elsewhere during the week, Sundays would find John preaching in many of the churches in Tallahassee, Quincy, Havana, Madison, and elsewhere. Surviving are his wife, Jane, his children Jay Ter Louw of Tallahassee; Jeremy Ter Louw of Richmond, Virginia; and Janne Creecy of Havana, Florida; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.He also leaves his sister, Etta Marie, but out-lived brothers Marion and Gary and sisters Cornelia and Mildred. His son Don died in infancy, and son John died in 2007. Since retirement, John and Jane have lived on Calle de Santos, the Street of the Saints, in Tallahassee. John died peacefully at home, in the loving care of his wife, children and grandchildren. The family is grateful for the care of Big Bend Hospice and the staff of Comfort Keepers. Instead of Flowers, the family would be honored by memorials to the John S Ter Louw Scholarship fund of Central College, Campus Box 5200, 812 University, Pella, IA 50219.
