John was born on October 5, 1935, to John and Josephine in Brooklyn, NY. John joined the United States Navy at the age of 16, where he honorably served as a medic and actively served overseas in the Vietnam War. After a long career, John retired from the United States Navy in 1974 and devoted his life to serving his community as a Florida State Trooper for 4 years.
John spent his entire life loving his neighbors as big as he loved himself. He loved ancestry and his Irish history. He visited Ireland constantly over the years and loved Irish music. He enjoyed watching soccer, collecting and trading guns, and loved Florida State University football.
Above all, John cherished his family. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Sullivan of 43 years, and his children Elizabeth (husband Michael) of Sammamish, WA, Jonathan of Orem, UT, Kathryn (husband Mark) of Lehi, UT, Kimberly of Tallahassee, FL, and Cindy of Tallahassee, FL. John is also survived by grandchildren Matthew (wife Annee) of Mesa, AZ, Madison of Sammamish, WA, Breanna (husband Brady) of Lehi, UT, Benjamin of Orem, UT, Luke of Eagle Mountain, UT, Taylor of Sammamish, WA and Koral of Lexington, NC, as well as two great grandchildren, Zayden and Ezran.
A public visitation in honor of John Sullivan will be held on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home located at 1737 Riggins Road, Tallahassee, FL 32308.
The Interment with Military Honors will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at 1 p.m. at Tallahassee National Cemetery located at 5015 Apalachee Pkwy, Tallahassee, FL 32311.
