Jean Ann Sullivan von Molnár, beloved wife of Stephan von Molnár, died peacefully July 6, 2015, after an extended illness. Her passion for healing, education and the promotion of women artists, particularly in Florida, will provide a lasting legacy of her productive life
.
Jean Ann Sullivan was born on July 8th, 1935 in New Haven, Connecticut, the eldest of three children, to Edna Crane and Edward Sullivan. A sister Mary Alice and bother Edward completed the family. Jean lived in Connecticut until 1957. After graduation from St. Mary’s High School, New Haven, she began her studies to become a Registered Nurse at Hartford Hospital, receiving her RN degree in 1956. During that year she also married and proceeded to practice her profession in a number of locations, Orono (Maine), Wilmington (Delaware), Chicago (Illinois), and Riverside (California). These locations were dictated in large part by her loyalty and love for her husband in his seemingly endless quest for an education. She held the position of Infirmary Head Nurse at the University of California, Riverside for five years.
Her first son, Christopher, was born in Riverside, and shortly thereafter, in 1965, the family moved to Ossining NY where her second son Marc was born. The family remained there until 1994 when she and her husband moved to Tallahassee, FL. While in Ossining, besides volunteering at a free clinic, she also became a counselor/teacher to learning disabled children in the Ossining school system for twenty years. Soon after arriving in Tallahassee, she joined the Tallahassee Woman’s Club, and was an active participant in its functions for many years. This included the position of first vice president from 2002 to 2006 among other duties. Perhaps her greatest efforts were devoted to the promotion of women artists, particularly in Florida. Towards that end she worked tirelessly to help with the initial funding of the Brogan Museum of Art (now closed) and a Museum for Women Artists in Deland, FL, which is now incorporated into the Florida Museum of Arts. Jean was an avid reader and had a wonderful sense of humor, honed by her love for life. She greatly enjoyed traveling and spent several years with her husband in Great Britain, France and Germany.
Besides her husband she leaves her two children, Christopher and Marc von Molnár, their wives Aja and Jennifer, respectively, sister Mary Alice and her husband Fred D. Reichelt, and brother Edward J. Sullivan and his wife Cathy.
A memorial celebration in Jean’s honor will take place at the Tallahassee Woman’s Club at 3:00 pm, Sunday, September 13th, 2015.
