Mrs. Olson was a resident of Tallahassee, living at Westminster Oaks retirement community. She was a member of Killearn United Methodist Church. Mrs. Olson was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was born on October 10, 1916 to Lois Rice (Ryan) in Newman, Illinois. She moved to Miami as a child and graduated from Miami Senior High School as the salutatorian of her class in 1934. Mrs. Olson married Arthur Olson, also of Miami, in 1937. Mrs. Olson enjoyed sailing and was an avid golfer, pursuing her love of golf well into her 80's. She assisted her husband in his real estate company; worked at a Miami area bank; and sold real estate in her later life. Mrs. Olson moved to Jupiter, Florida with her husband in the late '60's. She moved to Tallahassee in 1999 where she enjoyed living at Westminster Oaks until her death.
Mrs. Olson was predeceased by her husband, Arthur; her mother, Lois; and her sister, Virginia Thompson.
She is survived by her children, son, Roger Olson (Suzie) of Oak Ridge, Tennessee and daughter, Kristina Ivester (Mark), of Tallahassee, Florida; her nephews, Eric Olson (Susan) of Jupiter, Florida, and Richard Olson (Janet) of Woodstock, Georgia; her nieces, Sue Thompson and Pat Welch (Bill) of Plantation, Florida; three grandchildren, Kevin Veitinger (Ginger) of Savannah, Georgia, Elizabeth Ward (Clift) of Shepherdsville, Kentucky, and John Olson (Karen) of Simpsonville, South Carolina; one step grandson, Michael Ivester (Ruthie) of Tallahassee, Florida; four great grandchildren, Jordan and Sydney Veitinger of Savannah, Georgia and Charin and Annalynn Ward of Shepherdsville, Kentucky; three step great grandsons, Michael Ivester, Jr., Benjamin Luke Ivester and Tyler Darling of Tallahassee, Florida; one step great granddaughter, Leyton Tinberg of Greenwood, Indiana and her beloved grand dog, Lilly.
Mrs. Olson's family would like to thank the staff of Westminster Oaks for their kindness towards Helen in her years there, and also the staff of Big Bend Hospice for the comfort they provided her.
A private memorial service will be held for Mrs. Olson at Killearn United Methodist Church, followed by a graveside service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be given to Killearn United Methodist Church, 2800 South Shamrock, Tallahassee; or to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Boulevard, Tallahassee.
Arrangements are under the direction of Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home in Tallahassee, Florida.
