Mary Elizabeth Norris White died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer. She was born in Lake City Florida on September 16, 1955 to John Ewing Norris and Mary Elizabeth Norris. After graduation from Columbia High School in 1975, she attended the University of Florida where she earned a B.A. degree in Psychology. Several months later, she and husband Jim White moved to Tallahassee where she earned a masters degree in Social Work from Florida State University, which was to be her chosen career for the next 28 years. During this time, she worked in state agencies including Department of Health Children's Medical Services, and Department of Children's and Families Mental Health Program Office. Over her career, she was active in various organizations including the American Association of University Women, the National Association of Social Workers, and the Florida Swimming Association. She held various positions in the Capital City Woman's club, including Vice President and served as President of the Club until her death. She was an active member of Wildwood Church which she faithfully attended for 20 years.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Jim White, Daughter Heidi White, granddaughter Ava Turley, Father John E. Norris, Brother Guy W. Norris (Suzanne) and numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her mother Mary Elizabeth “Boots” Norris and a brother John E. Norris, Jr.
A celebration Of Elizabeth's life will held at Wildwood Church located at 100 Ox Bottom road, Tallahassee, on February 12, 2016 at 11:00 AM. The family will receive family and friends between the hours of 5:00-7:00 P.M. at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home located at 1737 Riggins Road, Tallahassee on Thursday, February 11, 2016.
