Anne Atkinson Eggers of Crawfordville passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at Big Bend Hospice in Tallahassee on March 31, 2017. She was born August 12, 1938, to John McIver Leach and Zola Blanche Taylor in Roanoke, Virginia. She was the captain of the basketball team and valedictorian at Smithfield High School, Smithfield, Virginia. In 1960, she received her bachelor of science degree in accounting from William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, where she was Phi Beta Kappa. She was married to Hiram Davis Atkinson, Jr. in 1960 at Smithfield Baptist Church. Afterwards, they lived in Jacksonville, Florida, before living in Memphis, Chicago, St. Louis, and Omaha. In 1978, Anne moved the family to Tallahassee following the passing of Davis.
In 1980, she was married to Henry (Hank) F. Eggers, Jr., and they lived in Tallahassee, Alligator Point, and Crawfordville. Anne enjoyed playing piano, traveling, the outdoors, fishing, spending time with her children and grandchildren, and watching tennis, golf, and Florida State football and basketball. She was a voracious reader, and was a long-time patron of the Wakulla County Public Library.
Mrs. Eggers is survived by her husband, Henry F. Eggers, Jr.; her five sons, Marshall Lanier Atkinson (Jody)(Phoenix), Timothy Paul Atkinson (Missy), Philip Jon Atkinson (fiancée Beth Parnell), Michael Jon Atkinson, and Andrew Davis Atkinson; a step-son Henry (Rick) F. Eggers, III; two step-daughters Mari Eggers Marcanio (Steve)(Gulf Breeze) and Kristianna Eggers Hamilton (Nairne, South Australia); twelve grandchildren Mallory Leighanna Niemann (fiancée Brandon Hinton)(Gulf Breeze), Matthew Charles Harvey (Pensacola), Myles Lee Frederick Harvey (Pensacola), Courtney Atkinson Cummings (Brandon)(Atlanta), Ellison Leigh Atkinson, Audrey Nicole Atkinson, Robert Davis Atkinson, Davis Scott Atkinson, Philip Michael Atkinson (Milwaukee), Jack Davis Atkinson (Phoenix), Kristopher George Doherty (Nairne, South Australia), and Conner Lincoln Austin (Nairne, South Australia); one great-grandchild Colton Layne Niemann (Gulf Breeze); nephew Duncan McIver Leach (Elizabeth)(Winterville, N.C.) along with great nephews Graves McIver Leach and McLane Courtnay Leach, and nephew Alexander Tarver Leach (Staci)(New Smyrna Beach, FL), along with great niece Mellissa Ashley Leach and great great nieces Maylee Leach and Elinor Leach, and great great nephew Benjamin Leach, and great niece Mia Leach (Tennessee); her sister-in-law Shirley Hankinson (Ocala); her brother-in-law Arthur Eggers (Donna)(Tampa); her brother-in-law William Andrew Atkinson (Shelley), and her brother John McIver Leach, Jr. (Grace)(Suffolk, VA).
