98, of Tallahassee, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 30. A native of Suffield, Connecticut, Ski served in the United States Navy during World War II, including the D-Day, Italy, and North Africa invasions, and the Korean Conflict. After 22 years of service, he retired from the Navy as a Chief Boatswain’s Mate. His awards include the Good Conduct Medal with four Bronze Stars, the Navy Occupation Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. Ski attended Florida State University following his retirement from the Navy. Upon graduation, he moved to St. Petersburg, Florida, but returned to Tallahassee in 1969. After 21 years of service with the State of Florida, Ski retired as a Management Review Specialist. A longtime member of the Co-Cathedral of St. Thomas More, he served as the head usher of the 10 AM mass for over 30 years. Good with his hands, Ski enjoyed woodworking and was an excellent handyman. He believed in service to his family, friends, church and country. Ski was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
Ski was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Christina Falkowski; his beloved wife, Edith McKay Falkowski; his brothers: Henry, Edward, Leon, and Victor; and, his sister Florence Jones. He is survived by his daughter, Charlene (John) Waltz of Tallahassee; two granddaughters: Christina and Patricia; brothers: Chester and Frank, both of Enfield, Connecticut; sister: Elizabeth Strycharz of Aiken, South Carolina; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit Thursday evening, December 7, from 6:00 to 7:30 PM at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Chapel, Timberlane Road location. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, December 9, at 11:00 AM at the Co-Cathedral of St. Thomas More. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the Co-Cathedral of St. Thomas More, Honor Flight Tallahassee, or the Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare Foundation.
