Albert J. Roberts, Jr., Lt Col, USAF (Retired), age 90, died on June 23, 2024, in Tallahassee, Florida. He was born in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1934, grew up in California and has lived in Florida since 1969. He has been a Tallahassee resident for the past 38 years. He was a member of the Association of Graduates, United States Air Force Academy, the Society of Combat Search and Rescue, Red River Valley Fighter Pilots Association, A-1 Skyraider Association and Military Officers Association of America. He served in the U.S. Air Force, retiring in 1977. He was a combat decorated fighter pilot with two Distinguished Flying Crosses, Meritorious Service Medals and nine Air Medals among his many service awards and decorations. After retiring from the military, he was employed by the State of Florida, retiring from the Aviation Office of the Department of Transportation after more than twenty-three years of service.
He and his wife, Jan, were married for more than 53 years prior to her passing in January 2012.
They enjoyed traveling in the United States and experiencing the wonders of this marvelous country. He was also predeceased by his mother Evelyn Conway and step-father, Harvey Conway. Colonel Roberts is survived by son Jeff and grandson Nic of Melbourne, Arkansas and son Scott and granddaughter Madison of Walnut Creek, California; sister, Shirley Roberts of Auburn, California; brother, John Conway and wife Hazel of Big Fork, Montana; brother, Ken Conway and wife Vicky of Blue Ridge, Georgia.
There will be no local services. Burial with full Military Honors will be at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado at a date yet to be specified.
