Marion Walah Phillips, age 79 known to his family as “Boggie”, surrounded by the love of his family, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 24, 2015, in Bristow, OK. He was born September 5, 1935 in Tahlequah, OK, the son of Paul Washington and Avice Jewel (Copeland) Phillips. A funeral service has been planned for Marion on Monday, March 30, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Reed Culver Chapel with Pastor Steve Lamberson officiating. Interment will follow at Tahlequah City Cemetery. Pallbearers for Marion include Greg Phillips, James Swan, Frank Ballard, David Ballard, Noah Ballard, and Madison Ballard. Honorary pallbearers will be Tony Presley, Derek Smith, and Brian Phillips.
Marion was a principal in Kansas for many years and also coached girls’ basketball. The team had a tremendous winning streak and being able to teach the girls how to play the game was a reward all in itself. When his parents became ill, he moved back to Tahlequah to take care of them and work their farm, where he made roots and stayed. He was a good man and everyone’s friend. He was a Mason and enjoyed farming and raising cattle and horses. Because of the time he spent working with animals, he was dubbed a shade tree veterinarian, helping to take care of any animal in need. He would always work a garden to share with all his family and friends. The most joy in his life came from his family and taking care of his nieces and nephews, from a trip to the store for some candy, to a little correction with a switch if needed. He may have loved his nephews and nieces, but he absolutely adored his great nieces and nephews. Marion was an exceptional person that will be missed by all his friends and loved ones.
Those that have gone before him include his parents and one brother Donald Paul Phillips.
Those left to remember his legacy include three sisters, Joan Presley of Wagoner, OK, Evelyn Kirby and husband James of Prattville, OK, and Carolyn Swan and James of Bristow, OK as well as an endless list of friends and loved ones.
