Lu Anne (Tucker) Cochran was born in Commerce, OK on August 14, 1941. Her parents were Deveraux Jarvis Tucker and Willa Irene (Thompson) Tucker. She spent most of her childhood on a farm in Miami, Oklahoma and graduated from Miami High School in 1959. In 1962, Lu Anne graduated from St. John’s School of Nursing in Tulsa and married her high school sweetheart, Walter Martin Cochran. They were married on August 25, 1962 at the First Christian Church in Miami, OK.
After completing nursing school, Lu Anne began working as a RN in hospitals all over Oklahoma and in Kansas City while her husband attended college and medical school. The couple eventually settled in Tahlequah, OK and raised their three sons there. She worked as an ICU charge nurse for over 40 years and served her community at both Tahlequah City Hospital and WW Hastings Hospital. She served in leadership positions in her boys’ soccer leagues and was also a Den Mother when they were in Boy Scouts. Lu Anne loved living in Tahlequah and had many friends in the area that she considered to be family.
She was an adventurous person and loved to travel with her family. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking with her grandkids, and gardening. She was a certified scuba diver and took many diving trips and cruises. She loved both diving in the tropics and exploring the glaciers in Alaska. She jumped at any opportunity to spend time with her kids and grandchildren. On November 20, 2023 in Oklahoma City, this cherished soul was called from her labors here on earth, at the age of 82. Lu Anne was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother and will be very missed by all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers, Richard Tucker, James Tucker, and William Tucker and two sisters, Mary Tucker and Patricia Tucker Wagner.
Those left to cherish her memory include her three sons, Martin Wayne Cochran and wife Kristal of Edmond, OK, Carl David Cochran and wife Julie of Lucas, TX, and Don Edward “Duke” Cochran and wife Stephanie of Kirksville, MO. Her legacy lives on through her six grandchildren, Jordin (Cochran) Forrester, Nicholas Cochran, Paisley (Cochran) Novin, Ella Cochran, Sydney Cochran, and Harly Cochran, four great grandchildren, Canaan Cochran, Luke Novin, Levi Novin, and Julian Forrester as well as many nieces, nephews, and a host of friends and loved ones her life has touched throughout the years.
Funeral services for Lu Anne Cochran will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 1:00pm at Reed-Culver Chapel with Reverend David Wiens officiating. She will be laid to rest to Tahlequah City Cemetery.
Pallbearers for Lu Anne include Nicholas Cochran, Benton Novin, Zackary Forrester, Corbin Harris, Caleb Harris, Kobie Harris and honorary pallbearer, Calvin VanZandt.
A time of visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, December 1, 2023 from 2:00pm until 6:00pm at Reed-Culver Funeral Home. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.reedculver.com for the Cochran family.
