Letha M. Marris

Letha Maye (Campbell) Marris was born on May 18, 1938 in Claremore, Oklahoma to Charley and Nancy (Fixin) Campbell. She attended Haskell Indian College in Lawrence, Kansas and spent time in Wichita, Kansas. She then would take a position working with the BIA in Washington DC. After several years, she relocated to Ardmore, Oklahoma where she met her future husband, Roy or lovely known as Uncle Roy to so many. Together, they shared 48 years of memories and embraced life traveling the world, walking the Great Wall of China, visiting Greece, Italy, India and many more. Letha retired from the BIA, working with the Chickasaw Nation. Letha was proud to be a first language speaker and grew up in the Barber Community. At a young age, she made her profession of faith on May 18, 1958. Some of her hobbies included reading and quilting, but she had a passion for genealogy and would spend countless hours researching her family history. Bowling was another of Letha’s favorite pastimes. She traveled all over the states with her league of lady friends. She was a very good cook. Meals were always ready when you came to visit and her apple fried pies were the BEST. Letha’s health began to fail and she was called to her eternal rest on June 1, 2024 in Oklahoma City. She was 86 years old and will be dearly missed by so many that knew and loved her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Roy Marris and brothers, Waiter, Wesley, Archie and Billy Campbell, along with her fur baby, Sheba.

Letha is survived by her beloved sisters, Ollie Thornton and husband Jerry of Wichita, Kansas, Mary Campbell of Welling, her brothers, Charles, John and Darrel Campbell of Welling. She also leaves her cousins, who she grew up with and were more like siblings, Pat Cameron of Welling, Emma Thirsty and husband Adam and Fred Cameron and wife Glenda, both of Cookson. Her memory lives on through her nieces, Nancy, Leanora, Noralea, Dekota, Shilow, Brooke, Laylani, Linnette and nephews, Preston, Devyn, Brandon and Scott.

Graveside services for Letha will be held Friday, June 7, 2024 at 11:00am at Barber Cemetery in Welling with Reverend Charlie Shell officiating.

Serving as pallbearers are Randy McCullough, Jerry Baker, Chad Maugans, Adam Thirsty, Fred Cameron and Cody Quetone. Honorary pallbearers include Preston Leonard, Devyn Maugans, Brandon Cato, Calvin McCoy, George McCoy and Marvin McCoy.

The family will be gathering following services at Barber Baptist Church.
