James David Wagnon was born on December 4th, 1958, in Claremore, OK, the son of Jack Wagnon and Nancy (Pickup) Rock. He grew up with four brothers and five sisters, and attended school in Salina and Oaks, finishing at Oaks High School. Fishing was one of his favorite pastimes, as well as listening to music, especially Elvis and the Beatles. When he finished school, he met and married the love of his life, Tammy Turner, on December 8th, 1990, at Johnson Prairie Church. They were wed and together they raised a family of three sons and one daughter, Jesse, Jamie, James, and Jordan. He worked as a Sanitation Technician at the Choctaw Nation Casino in Durant, OK before retiring. When he wasn’t working, he was watching his beloved OU Sooners and Dallas Cowboys every Saturday and Sunday. He enjoyed time at the casino, shooting a game of pool, and playing chess. He loved playing softball, basketball, and horseshoes. The man liked beginning his day with a fresh pot of coffee, and his day might very well end in the exact same pot, only a little bit stronger. He adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Being “Papa Jim” was a title he wore with pride. He was quiet, shy, and reserved. There was always a little twinkle in his eye and a shy smile on his face that let you know he was enjoying the moment. He always took the time to listen to church on the radio, and thanked God for the blessings that were his to enjoy. The road wasn’t always easy for James, he was heartbroken with the passing of his wife Tammy. His family was there to keep him going until he could find the blue skies again. He passed from this life on February 3rd, 2024 in Tulsa, OK, following a short illness, surrounded by the family he loved. James was 65 years old and will be greatly missed.
James is preceded in death by his grandparents, Willie and Lizzie (Blossom) Pickup and his mother and father, Nancy Pickup Rock and Jack Wagnon, and his wife Tammy in 2007. He joins his brothers, Blue Rock Jr., Johnnie Lee Rock, and most recently, Marcus Rock. He also joins his sister, Wanda Laguna. Sister in laws, Cathy Rock and Sallie Budder, two brothers in law, Chooch and JR Turner, his in laws, Roy and Mozelle Turner, and nephew, Eddie Arrellin.
