Grover Lee James Sr, or” Boyie” to his many family, was born on June 24th, 1945, in Jay, OK, the son of Ned and Ida (Tanner) James. He grew up in a large family with his two brothers and eight sisters, Mary, Anna, Wynona, Kenneth, Jimmy, Nancy, Bobbie, Martha, Joan, and Sandy. He completed his schooling and then went to Albuquerque, NM where he received his training in Dietary Certificate then returned to Tahlequah, and worked for years at WW Hastings Hospital in the Dietary Dept. He traveled extensively around the United States, but always called Oklahoma home. He also worked as a Minister, spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He was a true animal lover and never ventured far from his canine companions, Rowdy, Spike and Bob. He also had pet chickens and goats from time to time. He enjoyed relaxing at home and watching westerns and murder mysteries. There was nothing better than a trip to the river to do a little fishing and catch a few crawdads. He loved his children and grandchildren so very much and spent every spare moment he had in their company, either cutting their hair, visiting, telling them stories, and showing them pictures out of the old family albums. His first wife, Anna James passed in 2001, and Grover met and married his second wife, Alice Kingfisher in Park Hill, OK in 2004. They enjoyed going to the casino to visit and spend time with their friends, and spending time with the family. He would always be ready to play a game of dominos or go out side to clean his car, he kept it spotless. He was funny and possessed a great sense of humor, and has been known to run around the house putting Vicks Vaporub on everyone’s reading glasses. A Christian by faith, he attended the Methodist Church, read his Bible, and told anyone he could about the love of his Lord, Jesus. Grover’s life was not without adversity, but he always met each challenge head on, and had faith that God would see him through. The Lord called this good and faithful servant home from his labors on October 4th, 2017 at his home in Tahlequah, OK. He was 72 years old. He will be greatly missed.
