Donna Vern Jones

Donna Vern Jones was born on August 19th, 1947, in Kansas, OK, the daughter of Elijah Chief and Laura Mae (Winfield) McKee. She attended and graduated from Colcord School and then Kansas Schools. She grew up in a household with two sisters, Janice and Lily. Once her schooling was finished, she met and married the love of her life and the father of her children, Beverly, Stormy, Steven, Timothy and Donna. Together they enjoyed 45 years of memories, happiness and family moments. Donna worked outside the home as a Nurses Aide at both the Tahlequah Nursing Home and the Ward Nursing Manor. She loved her patients and gave them the best possible care she could. When work was done, she returned to the family she loved, and the fun began! You could often find her in the kitchen, and she could do some serious cooking, like her sausage gravy and biscuits, pig pork chops, chocolate meringue pie and Donna’s favorite snack of oreos and a big glass of iced milk. Weekends off were spent at the local river, camping and swimming with the kids and making campside breakfast of friends tators, with bacon and eggs. She could do magic with a can of commodity meat and gravy, always served with a Dr. Pepper. She liked to travel along with David, keeping him company and seeing new sites. At home she was constantly in the company of her canine cuties, Pretty Girl, Lil Britches, Lucky and Tia, she adored them. She enjoyed a trip to the casino to catch up on the latest and spend some time, and was always ready to play a little Bingo or work a puzzle. She kept her husband and her children and grandchildren in line, but only because she loved them so. Even after her health began to fail and she moved into the nursing center, she was the queen bee of the Cherokee County nursing Home, worrying about everyone and letting them know she cared. A Christian by faith, Donna loved to listen to gospel music and no one sang them better, than Vestal Goodman. David passed in 2013 and Donna spent the remainder of her time with the children and grandchildren she loved and treasured. The Lord called Donna home from her years of work and worry on January 19th, 2024 in Tahlequah, OK, surrounded by the family she was so happy to call hers. Donna was 76 years old and left a legacy for her family to follow.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents, her mother and father, and her husband David.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Beverly Glory and husband Johnnie of Welling, OK, Stormy Jones and wife LaDonna of Welling, Ok, Steven Jones and wife Brenda of Peggs, OK, Timothy Jones and wife Samantha of Peggs, OK, and Donna Jones and husband Javier of Tahlequah, OK, and her sisters Janice Luper and her husband Wagee, and Lily Postoak and her husband Phillip. She lives on in her 26 grandchildren, Angela Glory, Alisha Glory, Maria Orr and husband Jeff, Alex Marquez, Krystyna Jones, Kyler Jones, Keyerra Jones and husband Hunter French, Kimberley Jones and Austin Samples, Kaylie Jones, Jayton Jones, and Ayah Spencer. She also leaves her stepsons, Mike Jones, Virgil Jones and Vance Jones, 41 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones too numerous to mention.

Pallbearers for Donna include Ike Rose, Alex Marquez, JJ Jones, Hunter French, Treveon Glory and Cody Glory. Her honorary pallbearers include Angela Glory, Maria Orr and Alexia Glory.
