Tahlequah, OK- Memorial Services for Chester Randall “Randy” Jones will be held on Thursday, October 3rd, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Reed-Culver Chapel with Reverend Bill Holcomb officiating. The Eulogy will be delivered by Reverend Richard Davis of Tulsa, OK. Interment with Naval Military Honors will be held at Akin Cemetery in Sequoyah County, Akin, OK. Chester Randall “Randy” Jones was born on November 16th, 1950 in Sallisaw, OK the son of John Archer and Flossie Winnie (Worley) Jones. The family moved to Akin, OK and purchased “Jones Grocery”. Randy worked in the store as a young man, and becoming all conference while playing football, until he left for his tour of duty with the US Navy in 1971.Randy served active duty for two years and four years of reserves and was honorably discharged. He was the second of three generations of brothers that had gone to sea for their country in the Jones family. Upon returning to Oklahoma, Randy began his studies at OU, obtained his Bachelors Degree and went on to study Law, graduating with his JD degree and moving to the Tahlequah area. On November 23rd, 1979, he married the love of his life , Mary LeFlore in Stidham, OK, Pittsburg County, OK. This union was blessed with 34 years of marriage and three wonderful children, Eric, Lewis, and Karen. Randy was in private practice of law for 27 years. He was a member of Oklahoma State, Federal, Tribal, and local bar associations.
He was a dedicated servant of the people and strived to make a difference in those seeking justice, with his trusty companion by his side, serving as his secretary. Randy was quiet and thoughtful, but be advised, when he had something to say, it was going to be interesting! He loved to collect baseball cards and owned an extensive collection. He was a fan of the Texas Rangers, but would watch any major league team that played ball! An avid reader, Randy was often seen reading the newspaper and enjoying John Grisham novels as well as a variety of books. His favorite job was keeping up with his children’s activities. Randy was often found in Cub Scout activities, Band Boosters, Tahlequah Wrestling, and toted his fair share of Girl Scout Cookies and Boy Scout Popcorn. He lived for the annual spring break vacation, someplace, anyplace with a stadium, and a game scheduled for the weekend. He was blessed with a wonderful sense of humor and had a way of making your day a little brighter with that smile. He genuinely loved life and time spent with his family. A Christian by faith, he was baptized in the Akin Baptist Church when he was eleven years old. Although Randy battled cancer, he never lost his sense of humor, had a fighting spirit, and the will to remain close to the ones he loved. Randy was called to his eternal rest on Sunday, September 29th, 2013 at his home with his loved ones by his side at the age of 62. He will be missed for the smiles, the cunning, and the love he shared with his family and loved ones.
Randy is preceded in death by his grandparents, Chester Russell Jones and his wife, Eleanor Albina Deese-Jones, and Charley Worley and his wife, Ellen Hogner- Worley.
Those left to cherish the memory of Randy include his loving wife, Mary of the home in Tahlequah and three adored children, Eric Santo Jones of Tahlequah, OK, Lewis Westin Jones serving in the Navy , stationed at Norfolk, VA, and Karen Gayle Jones of Tahlequah, OK, and one very special little granddaughter, Eva Leilani Jones of Everett, WA. He leaves his mother and father, John and Flossie Jones of Sallisaw, OK. He leaves his two brothers, Charles “Kim” Jones and wife Susan of Pauls Valley, OK and Terry Gene Jones and wife Lorraine of Winfield, KS,. His memories will be cherished by his nieces, nephews, cousins and a whole host of friends and loved ones.
