Ada Mae Cheater

Ada Mae Cheater was born on February 7, 1941 in Tahlequah, OK, the daughter of Major and Susie (Osage) Henson. She was raised in the countryside of Cherokee County with her eight siblings. She met the love of her life, Crickett Cheater and in 1964, they were married in Stilwell, OK. They were blessed with their four children, John, Jerry, Susan and Ida. Yet, Ada’s door was always open to anyone that needed it, caring for many of her grandchildren throughout the years. She took great pride her role as a mother and mema. She possessed a servant’s heart and took joy in preparing homemade meals and baking goodies for her family and church family. Though she made the best chicken and dumplings or biscuits and gravy, her desserts were famous by all who knew her. Everyone had their favorites, from apple, strawberry, pumpkin and pecan pies to her homemade peach cobbler, but it was her pancakes that had all her grandkids racing to the kitchen. There wasn’t much Ada couldn’t do. Whether it was cooking or tending to her beautiful flower and vegetable gardens, it was the love and care she put in every touch that made it that much better. Ada used her skills as a florist for Cagles Flowers in Muskogee for many years. Even after her retirement, she made a point to live life to the fullest, running around with her best friends, Louise, Betty, Leeann, Ella and Brenda. She looked forward to visiting with her friends at the monthly First Language Speakers gatherings each month. Her and her girlfriends spent many weekends seeing what finds they can gather at local yard sales and flea markets. When Ada had a moment at home, she could be found watching her favorite soap operas like Young and the Restless or General Hospital and was the biggest fan of Elvis Presley. She enjoyed time working puzzles, taking in God’s beauty watching nature from her porch or caring for her chickens. A Christian by faith, Ada loved the Lord and had a church family that spanned the county. She was a member of Keener Baptist Church. On Friday, December 6, 2024, Ada closed her eyes on earth to open them in the presence of her Lord and Savior. She was 83 years old and will forever live in the hearts of those that knew and loved her.

She has gone on to join her husband, Crickett Cheater, parents, Major and Susie Henson, one daughter Susan Cheater, one son, Jerry Cheater, six brothers, Clark, Cecil, Chester, Charles, Houston and Sam Henson as well as two sisters, Beulah and Sarah Henson.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Ida Stanley and husband Eric of Rose, OK , one son, John Cheater of Tahlequah, OK, and one brother, Jimmy Carey and wife Anita Kay of Hulbert, OK. Her legacy carries on through her 14 grandchildren, Jennifer Alexander, Bethaney Torix and husband Anthony, Julia Cheater, Mary Cheater, Jonathan Cheater, Kristin Bryant, Jascon Kingfisher, Ashtin Davis, Stevi Sharp and husband Franky, Hunter Davis, Bradley Cheater, Cheyanne Busby, Logan Webber and J’Lynne Stanley, many great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, friends and fellow brothers and sisters in Christ.

A time of visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, December 10, 2024 from 2:00pm until 5:00pm at Reed-Culver Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Ada will be held on Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at 2:00pm at Reed-Culver Chapel with her brother, Pastor Jim Carey, officiating. She will be laid to rest at Keener Cemetery in Lost City.

Those serving as pallbearers include Anthony Torix, Jim Keener Jr., Doug Bryant, Franky Sharp, Brody Winfield and David Bush.
