John Phillip Grenga, 98, of Syracuse, passed away Thursday surrounded by family. John was cared for with dignity and respect by the devoted staff of Iroquois Nursing Home. We are grateful to all those who assisted in his care. He was born, raised and spent his life in Syracuse. John was a Carpenter by trade with Upstate Carpenters Union, retiring in 1980. John was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Nancy Militi Grenga and two sons: Anthony Grenga and Michael Grenga. He was also predeceased by his parents, Antonio and Madelyn (Tillini); four brothers, Geaton, Tom, America, Carl, and a sister, Antoinette Speach.
Surviving are his brother, Louis (Frances) Grenga; son John (Barbara) Grenga, of Syracuse; daughter, Sandra (Tom) Halstead of Skaneateles; daughter-in-law, Maria Grenga; 10 beloved grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services Monday 9:15 a.m. at the Farone & Son Funeral Home and 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery. Calling hours Sunday from 3-6 p.m. at the funeral home, 1500 Park Street.
