Rosa V. LoGiudice

On October 28, 2023, we lost our beloved mamma and nonna, Rosa LoGiudice. Rosa was born October 27, 1934 in Venice, Italy to Antonio and Maria Polito. She embodied the beauty, grace, and elegance of her beloved birthplace and city. As a young woman, she worked for the now defunct Thomas Cook Travel Agency, near St. Mark’s Square in Venice.

During a business trip to Rome in 1961, she caught the eye of her future husband. Blaise LoGiudice, an Italian American from New York, was in Rome on a grant to study the university system in Italy. Her beauty captured him immediately and he soon followed her to Venice. Five months later, they were married. Blaise brought her to Flushing, N.Y., where they built a life together and raised their twin daughters, Maria and Francesca. Although Rosa spent 62 years in New York, she never fully accepted it as her home. Her heart belonged to Italy.

Rosa was widowed in 1987. Four years later, she was lucky to find companionship and love in John Cannizzo, a relative of Blaise. They enjoyed dinners, opera performances at the Met, and Manhattan life together. After John passed away in 2008, Rosa’s health and mobility began to decline. Despite chronic pain, she looked decades younger than her age and until the end, was a stunningly beautiful woman. Always impeccably dressed, always stylish, always classy, always elegant.

Besides being a fashion icon, Rosa was also an excellent cook. Her wonderful holiday dinners could not be replicated by anyone. In her later years, she enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, and watching her Italian shows on television.

To know Rosa was to love her. She was the nicest, kindest, sweetest woman, and her family was blessed to have her in their lives. Although she enjoyed her independence and living in her condo in Bayside, Rosa loved spending time with family. Her beloved daughters, her adoring grandchildren, and her loving son-in- law Matthew were her everything. As we mourn her passing, let us celebrate the long life she lived and the beautiful person she was. We will forever miss her, forever love her, and forever cherish the memories, traditions, and culture she left us with.
