Catherine Taylor Pierce, age 84 of Sylvania, GA. died peacefully at home on Thursday, May 21, 2015 under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years John Winton Pierce, a son John Winton Pierce, Jr. and a grandson Stephen Cullum Owings. She was the only child of John T. and Velma T. Taylor of Screven County Georgia.
She is survived by her daughters. Linda Dickerson (Jimmy), Susan Owings (Steve), Cathy Pollard (Jeff) and a special friend, Earl Burke, of Millen, Georgia. Grandchildren include John Paul Pierce, Brett Dickerson (Alyson), Garett Dickerson, Pierce Owings (Lollie), Julia Parker (Kevin) and Taylor Pollard. She is also survived by 9 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was a lifetime member of Antioch Christian Church where she devoted her time and talents. In addition to her church and family, she managed a successful business, “Pierce Poultry Farm”. Through the years she served in many roles as a school and community volunteer. She always loved flowers and especially enjoyed the activities and friendships formed as a member of the Screven County Garden Club.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at Antioch Christian Church with Dent Wiggins officiating. Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery. Family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 PM on Friday, May 22, 2015 at Thompson Strickland Waters Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers are her grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers include Leroy Smith, Katherine Weeks, Betty Ayers, Gus Bazemore, Deanne Fitzner, Hilda Boykin and members of the Antioch Church community.
