Alabama, passed away on June 21, 2022. Graveside services will be at the Marble City
Cemetery in Sylacauga.
Sue was predeceased by her husband Waters C. Paul, a clinical psychologist at Bryce
Hospital, her parents Ethel Berry and Robert Hamilton, a beloved aunt “Miss Jessie” Berry, her
brother Randolph Hamilton, nephew Randy Hamilton, and many other relatives, all of Sylacauga.
She is survived by two devoted daughters, Suzanne Paul and her husband C. Michael
Smith of Fairhope, and Ellen Paul Stringfellow, husband Parker and grand-daughters Sara Anne
and Meredith Coleman Stringfellow, of Mountain Brook, special cousins Averiett Wesson and
husband Travis and their family, and Johnnie Tankersley, husband Randy and their family, all of
Sylacauga.
Sue was a graduate of Sylacauga High School and Birmingham Southern College, where
she was a member of Kappa Delta sorority. She was a member of Forest Lake United Methodist
Church, and was active in community services in Tuscaloosa. Sue was a member of the Junior
League of Tuscaloosa, Belle Arts Study Club, Quest Club, and the Book Club.
An avid reader, Sue considered herself primarily a homemaker, but held several
interesting positions over her lifetime. She was employed by the Birmingham Public Library, the
University of Alabama Library, and retired from the Tuscaloosa Public Library. In the 1970's, the
Department of Mental Health transferred her husband to Eufaula, where the family lived for
several years, making many lifetime friends. In Eufaula, Sue was a member of the First United
Methodist Church, the Pierian Club, and was a feature writer and columnist for the award-
winning newspaper The Eufaula Tribune.
Sue loved living her life in Tuscaloosa, while never forgetting her ancestral heritage in
Sylacauga. For her, each new day was considered a wonderful gift and each of her friends a
special blessing
