I have known John professionally for over 15 years and the news of his death leaves me with great sorrow.  He was a terrific person who possessed a quick wit and continually happy demeanor that will be sorely missed by all who knew him.  My heartfelt condolences go out to his close family and friends.  He will forever remain in my thoughts and prayers.

John was always a first class gentleman. He was blessed with a lot of friends and that says a lot about him. He will be missed by all of us here in Orange Beach.

John will truly be missed. I have wonderful memories of him at Lake Martin.  The Fays, Hurts, Fraziers and Grady's shared some good times there.  My heart goes out to your family.

I did not know John well but I saw him out with a lot of people I know and love. I do know he had many wonderful friends and touched so many lives. I only can imagine the homecoming he received. Keeping the Fay family in my prayers and hoping family and friends will help ease the pain of such a great loss. Perdido Key, Orange Beach and Gulf Shores all loved John and will truly miss him and his sweet smile.

To the Fay family,

I reported to John when he managed U. S. Pipe's North Birmingham Pipe Plant. He taught me more about leadership and effective management in his short tenure there than in any other forum in my entire career. He truely walked the talk, leading by example he earned the respect of all. He was the best boss and teacher that I ever had. Even though I only worked with John for about a year in the late seventies, he had a lasting and profound impact on me. He was indeed a great man and a great leader. You have my deepest sympathy and you will be in my thoughts and prayers.

To all the Fays, I wish I could be there with you all today.  John will contiinue to live on in all the incredible memories he has given us.  I miss Lake Martin... nothing like it anywhere, much less here in Texas.  Our love to the family and I know my godfather is in a glorious place now.

Dear Mary Margaret, Your father  embraced what others would run from.  I owe John for reaching his hand out to me many years ago.  He did so without hesitation.  I will always remember his kind spirit, his generosity, and his charm.  He was a true gentleman, a loving father, and a born leader.  I will keep his memory alive and try to live my life as he led his, full of life, love, and cheer.  I will forever regret not taking the opportunity to share my appreciation and feelings with him.  With deepest sympathy to you and your family.

Dear Anna, Missy, and all the girls, John Charles has been such a catalyst for gatherings and life-long connections in the extended Lyons family. John Fay was for us, a busiiness associate, but much more he was a friend.  Our business association began about 16/17 years ago, shortly after we moved to Alabama from Pennsylvania.  We have very fond memories of the many "ventures" we embarked upon, which were mostly very successful. Having relocated to Alabama in 1991, John's expertise was always greatly appreciated.  
We never knew John as "Capt. John", but certainly we always enjoyed talking about boating and the outdoors.  We are especially appreciative of the opportunities that John gave us to spend time "on/in" Paradise, Hawkes Cay and Key West.  We had always hoped that we could have shared some time at Ono Island, but alas, not to be.

God rest his soul and may he have eternal rest.  God's love to all the family especially during this most difficult time.

John will be missed in the coal industry. I will never forget when I met him in 1985. He was friendly and did not forget a name. He was never one to make a "lowly" secretary feel like she was overlooked when he came into an office. I will always remember his friendship and will miss his smiling face and jokes! RIP Friend!

I worked for the Alabama Coal Association during the time Mr. Fay was Chairman.  He was always so kind and many times went out of his way to sign checks I needed to mail the same day I called him.  I never heard him say a negative word about anyone.  The world is a sadder pace without him.

We will miss Capt./ Cousin John. Will Always remember the 4th of July and Thanksgiving family gatherings in the mountains of Highlands, NC.  Such a generous and family loving man. Love you John, Lucy & Randy Lyons

My thoughts and prayers are with John's family. He will be sorely missed both in Birmingham and Orange Beach.  I have so many great memories of fun times in OB and his sailboat, The Paradise.  I know that he is in Paradise today watching over all of us.  Thanks for the memories from an ‘Animal Cracker', your tag for us.

John will be missed by his Orange Beach Friends(family). He lit up a roon whenever he walked in and we were blessed to just spend time with him. His door was always open to anyone anytime. One of the most kind and generous men I have ever know.

Gonna miss Capt. John.  We had some great times together and alot of fun, especially at the Sail Boat Races in Key West every January.  Who could ever forget the bike taxi races back to the boat every night.  We even managed to get business done on those trips. RIP my friend and my condolences to the family.
