James "Jim" H. Morgan born in Whitney, SC, June 27, 1939, to the late J.C. and Margaret Robinson Morgan, left his earthly home at the age of 85 on December 13, 2024. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Mildred; sons, Ted and Jay (Krista); daughter in law, Joetta; two grandchildren, Stacey M. Jones (Ethan) and Jake Morgan (Abby); and a great grandson, James Gerald Jones. He was preceded by his parents; J.C. and Margaret Robinson Morgan; and his son, Jimmy Morgan.
Jim graduated from Clemson University, with a degree in Textile Management; an avid Clemson fan and longtime supporter of his ALma Mater. Following graduation, he was hired by Avondale Mills as a management trainee. Employed for 43 years, serving as Training Director and Human Resources Manager, he locked the door to his office when Avondale shut down all its plants in 2006. Jim was a "people" person, working for the good of the employees, and had a positive influence on many of those he represented.
Among Jim's various community associations, he served as President of the Sylacauga Lions Club; President of East Highland PTA; member of the Quarterback Club; United Way; coached 13 years in the Little League organization; and served as a Board member of Heritage South Credit Union. As an Avondale associate in North Carolina, he served as President of the Chamber of Commerce; Board Chairman of Yancey County Senior Citizens Center; Board member of Spruce Pine Hospital and was awarded the Governor's award for Outstanding Volunteer Service.
Jim has been a faithful member of Knollwood Presbyterian Church since its organization in 1978, serving as a Ruling Elder. He was instrumental in neighborhood Bible studies in his home that culminated by God's grace as part of the original gathering and organizing of Knollwood, and for many years he continued to teach and lead home Bible studies. Early in his life, he cultivated a passion for missions and devoted himself to helping those called into the mission field. He supported and served on the Board of Knollwood Christian School. Many hours were spent volunteering and coming alongside the staff at the Care House.
A Worship and Service of Remembrance will be on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at Knollwood Presbyterian Church at 2 pm. The service will be officiated by Pastor Mark Jessup.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jim's memory may be made to Knollwood Presbyterian Church Missions, P.O. Box 846, Sylacauga, Alabama 35150 US; and Knollwood Christian School, P.O. Box 340, Sylacauga, Alabama 35150 US.
