Mom was born in Bridgeport, Cape Breton. She was the daughter of the late Donald John MacPhee and Mary (Walsh) MacPhee.
Mom had great faith and said many novenas for her loved ones during their time of need. She always enjoyed visitors and made a great cup of tea! She always had a delicious dessert baked. She had a wonderful memory and shared many enjoyable stories. Mom enjoyed life and always saw the good in people. She was so kind to her sisters and brothers. They always stayed in close contact and had great love for each other.
Mom worked in downtown Glace Bay at a clothing store, then she went to Sydney to work at Maritime Tel & Tel as a phone operator, and then the Dominion Coal Company central switchboard, until she got married. She met many wonderful friends.
Mom and dad lived in Ottawa, Dominion, and Christmas Island. Mom moved to Sydney in 2004. She had many friends in Christmas Island whom she really missed when she moved to Sydney.
She will be deeply missed by her daughter, Cathy MacKenzie, son-in-law Shane, and her beautiful granddaughter Avery, whom she loved dearly. She is also survived by her sister Mildred (Lorne) MacNeil (Moose Jaw SK); her sisters-in-law Sr. Lucy MacNeil CSM (Inverness), Catherine Mazzocca (Guelph ON), Judy Morris (Glace Bay), as well as her little cat, Midnight, who adored mom, and her many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Besides her parents, mom was predeceased by her husband Roddie MacNeil and her son John Roderick in infancy; brothers Urban, Terrence, Blair; sisters Irene Goldie and Eunice Totter; brothers-in-law Rannie, Kenzie, Sandy; sisters-in-law Genny McIntyre, Mary MacAdam, and Theresa Price.
We would like to extend a special thank you to our many relatives and friends, especially Danette and Kenneth MacAdam, Carol Ann MacNeil, Peggy Smith, Grant Bergman, Margaret Smith, Don Goldie, Lloyd MacKenzie and her friend Ruth Swayne, for the kindness you gave to my mom and our family.
