It is with great sadness and fond memories that we announce Bill MacDonald passed away peacefully, after a short illness, with family on December 2, 2015 at the Halifax Infirmary site, QE11 in Halifax.
Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late Angus ‘Curly’ MacDonald and Mary MacNeil.
Bill was affectionately known as “Mucker” to his many friends and acquaintances.
Bill received his early education in New Waterford and later on he became a graduate of the Cape Breton Regional Vocational School. After a brief period of time working in the mines, Bill was employed by Sysco, where he completed his career. Bill was a Millwright by trade and he was well respected by his fellow workers and management for his strong work ethic and expertise. He was sent to Germany and Austria to receive further training by Sysco management.
In his younger years Bill was a superb athlete. He was inducted into the New Waterford sports hall of fame on two separate occasions. He played hockey for the Glace Bay Miners and Sydney Millionaires and on numerous soccer teams in the Cape Breton Region. He loved all sports, especially hockey, soccer, boxing and fly fishing.
Bill was a terrific family man. He was loved dearly by his wife Lorna (Mombourquette) and his two children; daughter Michelle MacIsaac (Gordie Reid) and son Billy (Rachel). His five grandchildren were the light of his life: Lauren, Erin and Julia MacIsaac and Hannah and Elizabeth MacDonald.
Bill is also survived by his siblings; sister Marcia (Jim Currie), Halifax, brothers: Allister (Rhoda), Parker and Paul MacDonald - all of New Waterford.
He was predeceased by brothers Jimmy and John Gregory.
Bill had a large extended family who loved him dearly: Marilyn Cole, Halifax, Tom (Truro), Elaine Mombourquette, Dartmouth, Arnie (Barb) Mombourquette, Peter (Anne) Mombourquette, Joseph (Anne) Mombourquette, Raymond (Rose) Mombourquette, Dougie (Margaret) Mombourquettte. Bill is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place Monday, December 7, 2015 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at 11am in St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church, with Rev. Bill Burke officiating. Donations in his memory can be made to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Palliative Care Unit. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the VON, Dr. M.
