It is with sadness of heart that we announce that on June 7, 2024 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital our beloved brother and uncle Vernon Walsh passed away at 89 years of age.
He was the son of the late Lawrence Walsh and Celeste Bagnell, formerly of Harvey St. in Sydney.
Vern was married to Theresa "Terry" Grazelle who passed away in March of 2014 while a resident of Harbourstone, where she resided for several years. He was also predeceased by brothers Ernest, James, Garfield, Reginald, William and Edward and sister Vivian Snow. He is survived by his brother Douglas (Margie) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Vernon worked in the insurance industry for 35 years in Halifax, Dartmouth and Sydney areas as an insurance claim adjuster. He retired as Sydney branch manager for a national claims service in 1994. He was a member of the insurance institute of Canada and ended as an associate in general insurance. Prior to retiring he lectured for several years on a part time basis in the para legal program at UCCB on general insurance in the early 1980's. Following retirement he became a certified ski instructor with CSIA and joined Ski Atlantic Seniors Club, Ben Eoin chapter as a volunteer ski instructor for 15 years until 2017 teaching ski improvement to seniors. Vern was an avid golfer and swimmer, golfing into his mid-eighties and swimming well into his late eighties.
Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, June 19 at 2pm at Hardwood Hills Cemetery on George Street in Sydney.
