Sydney
If you are reading this it means that I have missed my tee off time here on earth and moved on to the big golf course in the sky where one putts are a given.
It is with profound sadness that the family of Russell Carroll announces his sudden passing after a brief illness on January 26, 2019.
Dad was born in Sydney on March 22, 1929. He was predeceased by his parents Catherine (Holloran) and Albert Carroll.
Russell was a loving husband for 68 years to Goldie (Lorna Walsh) and a wonderful father to Lorna (Jim) Plemel, Rosalind (Ian) MacPhail and Albert (Paula Webber). He is also survived by his sister Mary LeVangie and grandchildren, David (Camille), Carrie (Brendon LeLievre), Mark Howell, Martin (Jessica Brown), Ellen (Patrick Reed), David Plemel, Russell (Beth), Rebecca Carroll and two great granddaughters, Payton John and Audrey Howell.
Dad had many hobbies including, hunting, baseball, hockey, skating, boxing, but his true passion was golf; starting with caddying in 1939 at the Lingan Golf Country Club and to this day was still a playing member. He enjoyed many successes on the golf course winning numerous tournaments and could easily recall each course and which club he played. He achieved four holes in one and two albatrosses. His working career spanned 42 years on the Steel Plant starting in the general yard, then to conductor on the trains and finishing in management.
Visitation will take place Wednesday, January 30 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated Thursday, January 31 at 11 am at St. Theresa’s Church with Fr. Dennis Lamey officiating, with a reception to follow.
