It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and great friend, Percy Aloysius Lush, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Percy passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at the An Cala Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in Sydney on January 25, 1933, he was the son of the late John and Sarah (King) Lush.
He was a member of Immaculate Heart parish in Sydney. Percy was a retired glazier, who worked many years at Canadian Pittsburgh before establishing his own company, Cape Breton Glass, where he worked until his retirement. He loved traveling and spending his time with friends and family over the years and will be dearly missed by all, especially his beloved grandchildren. Percy was also a volunteer firefighter with the Mira Road Volunteer Fire Department for 35 years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Elsie MacMillan, sons Glenn (Francois Adams), Ottawa; Derrick (Lynn Dodsworth), Great Village; Blair (Valerie), Sydney; Frank (Stephanie Tomko), Sydney; daughters Jody (John MacKenzie), Sydney and Madonna, Sydney; daughter-in-law Debbie, Sydney; brothers Jack (Joan) and Bernie (Gloria); sisters Cecilia Oliver; Mary Breen; Delores Penny; Pauline Somers; Theresa Farrell, all of Sydney and Margie Bethune, Toronto; grandchildren Holly, Peter, Rebecca, Keigan, Brady, Daniel, Bailey, Maggie, Kayla and Kylie, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Percy was predeceased by his son, Barry and sisters Geraldine Stanwick and Katherine Bartlett.
Visitation for Percy will be held from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. on Thursday at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel, Sydney. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. on Friday, October 28, 2011 at Immaculate Heart Church with Fr. Conrad Edwards officiating. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
