Margie Marshall of Eskasoni passed away at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by loved ones. Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Chief Charlie A. Francis and Elizabeth (Gloade) Francis.
In Margie’s younger years, she aspired to be a nurse but her path soon changed to motherhood where she gave birth to six beautiful children. Margie also raised another family alongside her late husband Alexander Marshall for almost twenty years. Margie held careers such as working for her brother’s construction company and was a homemaker. Margie was very much into her makeup. So much so she even completed her schooling in Cosmetology in Sydney. Her love for helping others was something she was well known for often spending endless hours helping others who needed her or giving someone the last of her money. In her down time she was an avid basket-maker and enjoyed doing crafts such as making mesh wreaths, ornaments and beaded items. Margie was strong in her faith and the Mi'kmaw language. Margie was also a great cook and was a big collector of anything elephant. Margie had such a good memory she could tell you when she got her elephant, where she was when she got it and who gifted it to her. Margie also loved traveling especially to Quebec and Maine and enjoyed her visits to her special Aunt Evelyn Levesque, “sister” Sandy Merritt, Simon S. “Plawej” Clair, Helen and the late Caroline Francis.
Left to mourn her are her sons; Kenneth (Maryann) Francis, Pius (Michelle) Marshall, Lloyd (Judina) Marshall, Andrew (Chakira) Marshall, Joe P. (Clara) Marshall, Winston Marshall, Alan Marshall & Vernon Marshall. Daughters Annie Jane (Christopher) Marshall, Nancy Ann (Tim) Marshall & Veronica (Ty) Bernard. Siblings; Gerald (Mabel) Francis, Chuck Francis, Paul Francis, Barry (Eicka) Francis, Sandy (Ken Tobin) Denny, Marion (Fred) Denny, Jeannette Francis and numerous godchildren, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her godparents Roddie & Catherine Stevens, her beloved husband Alexander Marshall, one child in infancy Harriet Marshall, step-children Alexis Sapier, Mary Marshall, Alex Jr. Marshall, Gerry Marshall , Duran Christmas & Stephen G. Marshall. Siblings; Carolann Battiste, Shirley Googoo, Lena Francis, Lena Joe, Marion Paul , Dennis Francis and Blair Francis.
