“Janie” was born on June 10, 1931, and raised in Eskasoni. She was the daughter of the late Noel and Jessie Gould (Denny). She passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on June 19, 2018.
She is survived and will be deeply missed by her loving son, Roderick Gould (Zusun); foster son, Jacob “Jake” Stevens; beloved grandchildren, Michael and Madison Gould; “adopted daughter”, Jessie Denny-Jeddore (Skyler); honorary grandchildren, Miley Bernard, Payson Pierro, and Suzanna Prosper; beloved brother, Ronald James Gould (Carolyn); many special nieces and nephews; her very special friends, Viola Christmas, Susie Marshall, Elizabeth Knockwood, Sister Veronica Matthews, and Theresa Johnson; Godchildren, Sandra Gould, Shirley Gould, Allan Jeddore, and Leonard Denny. She is also survived by her beloved cat, ntuwe’m.
She was a member of Holy Family Parish of Eskasoni, and a founding member of the Eskasoni Ladies Club. She was devoted in attending the St. Anne’s Pilgrimage in St. Anne de Beaupre, Quebec, yearly, as well as the St. Anne’s Mission in Potlotek. She worked for many years as a cashier at Denny’s General Store, and Rubby’s Store. She also worked as a post-master in Eskasoni. She was an avid basket-maker in her early years. She had many hobbies including playing bingo nightly, card games, and watching game shows. She had a deep love for animals, especially cats and dogs. She and her beloved husband were truly the definition of humble and kind. She loved cooking, baking, and teaching others her recipes. Her teapot was always full and ready for visitors.
Janie was predeceased by her husband of many, many years, Roderick “Roddie” Simon Gould; parents, Noel and Jessie Gould (Denny); sisters, Clara Denny, and Mary Ellen Hopkins; brother, Charles Gould. She was also predeceased by her foster son, Charlie Joe Dennis.
Visitation for Mrs. Gould will begin after 7p.m. on Monday, June 25th, 2018 at her residence, 4281 Shore Rd., Eskasoni. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30a.m. on Wednesday, June 27th, 2018 at Holy Family Parish with Fr. Duncan MacIsaac officiating. Interment will follow in the Holy Family Parish Cemetery, Eskasoni. Salite and meal will follow at the Eskasoni Gabriel Centre. Expressions of sympathy may be made to www.twcurry.com.

We would also like to thank her excellent homecare workers and homecare nurses for their care, especially Cheyanne Levi, Anita Young, and Amanda Francis. We would like to thank the Nurses of the ICU Unit for their wonderful care and compassion. Special thanks as well to our wonderful family members who helped care for her during her time of need- Charla, Cheyanne, Alana, Krista, Clara, and especially, Sharon and Shelley.
