It is with saddened hearts that we announce the unexpected, but peaceful passing of our beloved brother, uncle and friend Joseph Anthony "Tony" MacKinnon at his home on Friday, December 29, 2023. Tony was born on December 27, 1966 to the late Neil and Mary (Dunn) MacKinnon of East Bay.
Tony spent most of his working life in Toronto as a programmer with Procter & Gamble. Upon his retirement in 2015, he moved back to his roots (Cape Breton) and his beloved East Bay to be closer to family and friends. Tony was an avid researcher, who spent countless hours helping anyone who asked with genealogy research. He was also involved in the local construction, building several homes which he either rented or sold.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers Hector and Michael as well as 3 other infant siblings and sister-in-law Linda.
Tony is survived and will be missed by his brothers Daniel (Marg) of Sydney Forks, Joseph (Donalda) of Northside East Bay, John of Marion Bridge and Lawrence of East Bay, his uncle Joe Dunn of Ontario, sister-in-law Anne as well as numerous nieces and nephews, but especially his nephew Charles whom he was particularly close to.
Visitation will take place on Monday, Jan. 8 between 4 & 7 pm at TW Curry Parkview Chapel, 755 George St., Sydney with a Funeral Service taking place on Tuesday, Jan. 9 at 11am also at TW Curry Parkview Chapel with Fr.
