64, Howie Centre
It is with sad hearts that the family of John Edward Robertson 'Eddie' announce his sudden passing on Aug. 7, 2014 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Eddie was born in Sydney on Aug. 21, 1949 to the late John and Mary (MacDonald) Robertson. Eddie started his career in the automotive industry at the ripe age of 12 as a pump guy. Over the years, he worked as a mechanic, service manager and finally as the owner of Eddie Robertson’s Service Station in Howie Center. He loved helping people and went far and beyond to make sure people were satisfied and treated fairly.
Eddie loved his time four-wheeling and always talked about his trips, especially his big trip to Newfoundland. He also enjoyed his games of tarabish where his only goal was to beat “the girls”. Most of all, his greatest love was his family for whom he always put ahead of himself.
Eddie loved to travel. He went on many vacations with his family where they created many special memories. His recent trips to Pheonix where he was waited on by his sister, Sheila and brother-in-law, Dave were particularly memorable to him. His favourite place was the bungalow at Red Point in McKinnon’s Harbour surrounded by his family.
Beloved husband, brother, father, and grandfather, Eddie was everything to his family and will stay in our hearts forever leaving us with a hole that can never be filled. He was everything to us, our go-to person, the person we could always rely on. He was always the jokster, our Dad, our Papa, our brother, our uncle and our friend.
Eddie was predeceased by his parents, Mary (MacDonald) and John Robertson; his parents-in-law,Tina (Bartlett) and Jim Fleming; his sisters, Jeanette (Ronnie) Campbell and Loretta Barrington and his beloved granddaughter, Angela Catherine Robertson.
Eddie leaves behind a large circle of friends and family. He will be missed most by his loving wife of 43 years, Catherine Ann “Kate/Katie/Cathy”, his cherished children, Daddy’s girl, Amy Robertson; his computer genius, Jamie Robertson and his best friend, Shaun (Elena) Robertson; his brother, Gerard (Carolyn) Robertson; his sisters, Sheila (Dave) Gale, Beverly MacLellan, Elaine (Donnie) MacRae and Heather (Chuck) Dobbin; his brothers-in-law, D’arcy Flemming and Gerald Barrington; his sisters-in-law, Claire (John) McGillvary, Marguerite (Francis) Westwood and Theresa (Leigh) Ronalds, a great number of nieces and nephews and extended family, and most importantly, his beloved granddaughters, Maggie, Sarah, and Kaitlyn Robertson.
Visitation will take place Sunday, Aug. 10, 2014 from 3–7 p.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass and reception will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Roman Catholic Church in Sydney River on Monday, Aug. 11, 2014 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Jim Oliver officiating. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks, following mass and reception.
The family has asked that donations in Eddie’s memory be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Diabetes association.
