Born in Donkin on January 2, 1928 to the late James and Anastasia (Pendergast) Borden. He was married to Catherine (MacNeil) Borden until her passing in 1989. He left behind to mourn his children, Mary Murphy, Margaree Valley, John Borden, Sydney and Joanne and Gerard Coombs, Sydney River, with whom he resided. Papa is also survived by his Grandchildren Jennifer, Ryan, Melanie (Murphy), Sean, Jaclyn and Megan (Borden), Tara and Tyler (Coombs) 9 great grandchildren, and special friend, Patsy Keough.
Johnny was predeceased by son in law Hugh Murphy. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family: Augustine, Anastasia, James, Thomas, Mary, Robert, Bernard, Dennis, Agatha, Monica, Joseph and Wilfred.
The family would like to thank Dr Stephen MacDougall and the Palliative Care Team for his wonderful care. Johnny always enjoyed passing time with visits and phone calls from his many nieces and nephews, especially Jimmy, Art, Jack and Pam.
Visitation will be held at TW Curry Parkview Chapel, 755 George St., Sydney from 2-4 & 7-9pm on Friday, April 22. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 23 at 11:00am at St. Theresa’s Church, 381 Whitney Ave., Sydney with Fr. Dennis Lamey officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Resurrection Cemetery.
