We regretfully announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Daniel James ‘Jim’ Currie, on January 19, 2022. Born in North Sydney on January 25, 1936 to the late Dougal and Effie Belle Currie.
Jim served in the Air Force for 20 years, traveling around the world, he then went on to owning and running a construction company for 25 years. Family was most important to him, and he especially loved treating his grandchildren to the dairy bar. Always ready with a joke to make you smile.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 40 years Shirley (Poirier), daughters; Adera (Barry) Brooks, Belinda (Lawrence) King, and Maureen (Roger) Arsenault, sons; Brian MacKinnon and Sheldon (Lynda) MacKinnon, 8 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Cecelia Gosbee, and brother John ‘Lauchie’ (Lizzie) Currie, Sisters-in-law Peggy and Theresa, brother-in-law Archie Fraser and numerous nieces, nephews and former employees.
Besides his parents he is predeceased by his siblings, Mary (Fosh Pickup), Angus, Dan, Flora Jane (Claude MacMullin), Tene (Michael MacInnis), Katie Mae, Theresa (Tom MacLean), Michael (Rhodena), Caddie Fraser, Frances ‘Buddy’ (Sally), brother-in-law Ray Gosbee and great grandson Ash Huestis.
A private family funeral will be held at St. Mary’s East Bay with Fr. Anthony O'Connor officiating.
