East Bay
It is with sadness we announce the passing of Clare Murphy, formerly of East Bay, on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at the MacGillivray Guest Home.
Born in Grand Mira North on August 4, 1917, Clare was the daughter of the late Martin D. and Catherine (Campbell) Gillis.
Clare is survived by children, Leo (Georgina), London, ON; Terry (Debbie), Yarmouth; Arlene Vassallo (Gary), Sydney Forks; Annette, Sydney; Tom (Carol), East Bay; Jerry (Mary Rose), East Bay; daughter-in-law Teresa Murphy, Glace Bay; brother, Alphonse Gillis, Falmouth, NS and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Harry; sons Bernie and Joe; sisters Ann Petrie, Florence Presseau, Lucy Ellen, Mary and Sister Josephine Gillis, CND; and brothers Donald, John Alex, Joseph, Allan, Lawrence and Bernard.
Clare enjoyed spending time with her family. She was an avid baker known for her pies and biscuits, and she delighted in winning a game of 45’s, even in her later years. She was a long-standing member of St. Mary’s Parish and CWL.
The family expresses sincere appreciation to MacGillivray Guest Home and their wonderful staff for their care and compassion during the last two years.
Visitation for the late Mrs. Murphy will be held Sunday, March 9, 2014 from 6-9 pm at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel. A funeral mass of celebration will take place Monday, March 10, 2014, at 11 am at St. Mary’s Church in East Bay with Rev. Frank Abbass officiating. Cremation will follow for burial at a later date in East Bay Cemetery.
