It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather Harold George Hines. Harold fought a long journey over the last 15 years with his devoted wife Phyllis and family along his side. Harold passed on May 21, 2023, at the Victoria General Hospital.
Harold George Hines of Meat Cove was the son of Melvin Hines and Emma (Maclellan) Hines. He is predeceased by his parents Melvin and Emma, his sisters Debbie and Donna, and brother Bernie. Harold is survived by the love of his life and wife of 35 years Phyllis, son Dylan, daughters Melissa (Leonard), Mandy (Mackenzie), Jenny (Frederik), Roseann (Justin), stepson Jamus and special nieces and nephew Megan, Maria and Vincent. His godchildren Becky Maclellan, Brittany Burton, Maria Hines and Megan Hines.
His brother and best friend Hector (Judy), brother Clayton and 5 sisters Lorraine, Rita, Normie, Kathy, Willena, many grandchildren (Dawson, Emily, Haylee, Jaxson, Destiny, Demi, Diana, Spencer, Harland, Emma, Sophie, and Rosalee) and sibling Melvin.
Harold most of all loved spending time with his cherished wife Phyllis, you would often find them walking hand in hand on the beach, watching sunsets, going for drives, spontaneous trips to Inverness, and spending time with their family.
He was a gentle soul, who always brought love and laughter to the people around him. He always had a smile on his face and will be greatly missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Harold spent his life doing the things he loved including spending his time outdoors, riding his ATV, hunting, and time with his family and his beloved wife. He had a special spot in his heart for his grandson Harland and brother Hecky.
Harold was the person you called when in need of advice or help. He was never afraid of a challenge and taught everyone to be fearless and to always keep fighting. Harold was especially proud of his community and was often thought as the heart and soul of Meat Cove. He was a member of St. Margaret’s Church of Scotland, St. Margaret’s Village.
Harold worked several jobs throughout his life including fishing with his father Melvin, brother Hecky and sister Ena, working in the mine in Meat Cove with his uncle George, driving the school bus for Meat Cove, and his favorite job Moose guiding with his brother Hecky for over 30 years with Meat Cove Outfitters.
