MacLELLAN, Donald Robert (64), Bay St. Lawrence.
It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Donald Robert MacLellan on August 30, 2010 in Buchanan Memorial Hospital, Neil’s Harbour. Born in Cheticamp, he was a son of Mary Josephine (Fraser) MacLellan, Long Stretch Road, Port Hastings and the late Donald Archibald MacLellan.
He is survived by his wife Theresa Buchanan; daughter Theresa MacLellan (Daniel Williams), Bay St. Lawrence; sons Donald (Denise) Fort McMurray; Cole (Corrine), Bay St. Lawrence; sisters Linda (Allen) Bates; Karen (Vince) Daigle; Mary “Magey” MacLellan; Tina MacLellan (Sandy), all of Long Stretch Road, Port Hastings; brothers Dick (Mary), Winnipeg; Gussie, Port Hawkesbury; Fraser (Debbie), Sugar Camp; grandchildren Donnie, Marley, Fort McMurray; Miranda, Glace Bay; Cameron, Carter, Chace, Bay St. Lawrence; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sons Robbie and Dougie; brother Gary; sister Sheila MacDonald; infant sister Mary.
In earlier years, Robert was employed with Gordie’s Gulf Service Station in Port Hastings. Following this, he worked with Stelco in Hamilton, Ontario. Robert and his family then moved back to Nova Scotia where he made his living as a commercial fisherman, fishing the waters of Bay St. Lawrence for lobster and crab. He was Councilor of Victoria County for 19 years as well as serving with the Bay St. Lawrence Volunteer Fire Department for 23 years with 21 of those years serving as Fire Chief. Robert was also was a member of the Board of the Highland Manor and of the Bay St. Lawrence Credit Union.
Visitation will be held at the family residence, 15 MacBuck Road, Bay St. Lawrence with visiting hours from 3-8pm Wednesday and 2-8pm Thursday. Mass of Christian burial will be offered Friday at 2pm in St. Margaret’s Church with Father Dan MacDonald officiating. Burial in St. Margaret’s Parish Cemetery. Family flowers only by request. Memorial donations may be made to North of Smokey Palliative Care Unit. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home, Ingonish.
