It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a wonderful, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. David Forrest, 85 of Sydney Mines passed away on April 22, 2024 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born in Sydney Mines he was a son of the late Peter and Edith (Wareham) Forrest.
David worked for 30 years at Princess Colliery and the Old Sydney Washplant. He was also a lobster fisherman for more than 65 years. He loved fishing, hunting, and playing cards with his sons. He loved having friends and family around and had a great gift for telling jokes and story's. His favorite times were family gatherings and Christmas Eve when he would play Santa for the kids.
Survived by the love of his life his wife of 63 years Florence (Gardiner); sons, David (Eileen), Paul (Lori), Don (Laurie), Travis (Laurie), and Nathan (Jennifer); daughters, Doreen Keagan, Deneene (Roger), Michelle (Troy), Joeliene (Duane) Jessome; brother, Charles “Bud”; sister, Linda Bradley; sisters in law, Elizabeth and Kay Forrest; 31 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild; special friend and pet, Kitty ; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Deneice; ; brothers, Willis “Bill”, Peter, George, Alexander and Edward; sisters, Della, Agnes, Elizabeth, Mary and Edith; son in law, Angus Keagan; grandsons Trevor and Paul Ronald, and great grandchildren, Lincoln and Talia.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 30 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 1 at Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home with Rev. Corrie Stewart officiating. Interment in Brookside Cemetery, Sydney Mines.
