Mary Elizabeth Brownell

She was born on June 5th, 1942 to the late Frank and Mary (Coughlin) Brownell.

“Bets” as he called her, was the life long love of William E. Bliss, who preceded her passing in 2020.

Mary was a petite woman with beautiful blue eyes and a hallmark grin. She was a humble, sincere soul who had a gentleness and sweetness that was equally matched with resilient strength and feisty boldness concerning matters that were important to her and those she loved. Mary carried herself seemly with a class that reflected the era in which she was raised, she had a solemn presence, and never used foul language.

Despite being deaf and other hinderances, Mary lived life simply and wholly.

She often took day trips by bus and train all over New England with her bicycle in tow, and camera close by to capture anything that caught her eye. Some of her favorite places to visit were Swansea, Boston, and Newport, RI. Mary was quick to make friends and made many through her travels. Mary thoroughly enjoyed a well-cooked meal, never said no to ice cream, and cherished spending time with loved ones.

Through the years she attended Christian churches in Fall River and also attended Christ Church in Swansea. Mary had strong faith. In her younger years she was a Sunday School teacher, a role that meant a lot to her.

Mary is survived by her brother David W. Brownell, her beloved daughter Amy, and cousin Michael Brownell. Mary will be dearly missed and never forgotten.

Her Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2021 from 11:00AM to 12:00PM in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest, 189 Gardeners Neck Rd., Swansea, followed by her Funeral Service at 12:00PM.
