John & Lorraine Souza

John was born in Somerset, a son of the late Antone and Elizabeth (Derosier) Souza, while Lorraine was born in Fall River, a daughter of the late Manuel and Mary V. (Jacomb) Medeiros. Together they shared 70 years of marriage.

John and Lorraine were members of the Good Sam’s Campers Club and the Family Motor Coach Association. They spent the winter in Florida and enjoyed camping locally. John was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed fishing. Both loved spending time with their family and friends, above all else.

John's journey was marked by his commitment and hard work. As a young man, he pursued and earned his captain’s license, demonstrating his drive and determination. His skills extended beyond the maritime world as he ventured into furniture repair and eventually established his own successful business, formerly known as Furniture Service of Swansea.

Lorraine was a devoted member of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America. She spent over 20 years as a machine operator at the Sow Loft, where she was known for her diligent work ethic. Following her time there, Lorraine transitioned to Data Packaging, where she continued to contribute her skills until her retirement.

Survivors include their sons: Kevin Souza of Swansea and Jeff Souza of Fall River; their grandchildren: Josh, Courtney and Michael; their great-grandchildren: Amelia and Josh, Jr.; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. They were the parents of the late Debbie Saraiva. John was brother of the late Dennis Souza and Bob Souza. Lorraine was the sister of the late Frank Medeiros and his wife Lee, Manuel Medeiros and his wife Terry, Mary Medeiros and Lydia Lighter and her husband Herman.

Their funeral will be held Saturday, August 10, 2024 at 9:30 AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest, 189 Gardner’s Neck Road, Swansea followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Swansea. Relatives and friends are invited. Visitation will be held Saturday from 8:30 – 9:30 AM, prior to Mass. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Swansea.
