Born in Hyannis, a daughter of the late Edward and Elizabeth (Adam) Barnes, she spent her youth in West Yarmouth and lived in Swansea for many years prior to moving to Somerset.
A graduate of Dennis Yarmouth Regional High School, Class of 1958, she attended the Truesdale School of Nursing.
In addition to being a homemaker and raising her children, she was an active member of the First Christian Congregational Church in Swansea. She was a longtime member of the Swansea Ladies Auxiliary Fire Department, Station, 1. Active in town politics, she enjoyed playing bingo, completing puzzles, crocheting and cheering on the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox. Her favorite times spent were with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by four children, Christine Lacera and her husband Jose of Cranston, RI, Robert Mello Jr. of Swansea, Brenda Ricci and her husband Edmund of Fall River, Elizabeth Botelho and her husband Robert of Somerset; five grandchildren, Maeghen Malone and her husband Ryan of Swansea, Amanda Sherlock and her husband Brandon of Somerset, Ashley Cordeiro and her fiancé Jacqueline of Somerset, Zachary Cordeiro and his wife Alicia of Swansea, Savannah Nascimento of Somerset; five great-grandchildren, Riley and Seamus Malone, Aubrey and Jameson Sherlock and Eva Cordeiro; dear friends Lori Nadeau and her husband Brian and their daughter Ryleigh of Somerset and many nieces and nephews.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at 10:30AM in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest, 189 Gardners Neck Rd. Swansea. Relatives and friends invited. Visitation will be held prior to her service from 8:30 to 10:30AM. Contributions in her honor may be made to the Swansea Fire Department, 50 New Gardner Neck Rd., Swansea, MA 02777. Burial private.
