James A. Walsh, age 99, of Swansea, passed away, Saturday, April 21, 2018 in Country Gardens Nursing Home, Swansea. He was the husband of the late Alice M. (Lecuyer) Walsh, with whom he shared 76 years of marriage.
Born in Fall River, a son of the late Bernard and Lillian (Millrick) Walsh, he attended B.M.C. Durfee High School before serving in the United States Army during WWII. He was a member of the American Legion, Post #0303. Mr. Walsh worked at River Edge Printers for 18 years before retiring.
Mr. Walsh was a communicant of the former St. Michael’s Church in Swansea and Mt. Carmel Church in Seekonk where he served as a Eucharistic Minister for 15 years and was the recipient of the Marian Medal.
He is survived by one son, Raymond J. Walsh and his wife Carol of Swansea; two daughters, Lillian Rounds and her husband Gregory of Swansea and Claire Purdy and her husband Stephen of Swansea; seven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Rose Powers, Bernard and Thomas Walsh.
His Funeral will be held on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at 9:00AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest, 189 Gardners Neck Rd., Swansea, followed by his Funeral Mass 10:00AM in Saint Francis of Assisi Church, 530 Gardners Neck Rd., Swansea. Visiting hours Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00PM. Contributions in his honor may be made to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation, P.O. Box 515 Northampton, MA 01061. Burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Swansea.
