Bruce E. Hodge

Born on November 4th, 1947, in Fall River, MA, to the late Edward and Emma (Larrivee) Hodge, Bruce was the first of the couple's three children. He was well liked and highly intelligent; regarded as an excellent student, athlete, loving son, and elder brother. After graduating high school from Bridgton Academy (1966), Bruce earned a degree in Political Science & Government from Bates College (1970), and a Juris Doctorate from Boston University School of Law (1979).

Following law school, Bruce practiced as an Attorney in Rhode Island for over 20 years. He was proud of the work he did on behalf of his clients, including his involvement with Rhode Island Legal Services, federal litigation on behalf of Vietnam Veterans, and his representation of Rhode Island’s underserved. Bruce committed himself to his clients no matter their backgrounds or socioeconomic status, and advocated for many people over the course of his career.

Bruce’s main passion in his life were his two children, Matthew and Eloise, who both brought him immense joy. He was a devoted father who never missed an opportunity to cheer at their sports events, play a game of catch, or share his knowledge. Together, the three embarked on many adventures, traveling across the country and Canada for games, tournaments, and their annual summer camping trips. Bruce loved and cherished his children, and always spoke proudly of their accomplishments. Most recently, Bruce’s most precious moments were spent with his baby grandson, Axel, who he loved deeply.

Bruce will fondly be remembered for his love and dedication to his family, his sharp legal mind and willingness to help others in need, his quick wit and aphorisms, his hilariously short temper (and equally short ability to stay upset), his loyalty and compassion, and his many hobbies — sailboats, classic cars, engines, books, road trips, woodworking, antiques, blues, jazz, and classical music. His intellect, sage advice, and generosity will continue to inspire all who knew him.

Bruce is survived — and missed dearly — by his sister, Jacalyn Hodge; his children Matthew Hodge and Eloise Hodge (Steven Harpool), and his baby grandson, Axel Hodge-Harpool, whom he all loved greatly.

The funeral and burial were held privately.
