Arthur E. Schneider, age 98, passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at the Catholic Memorial Home. He was the husband of the late Miriam (Mercer) Schneider to whom he was married 62 years before her passing in 2005.
Born in Fall River, a son of the late Frank and the late Mary (Egan) Schneider he was a longtime resident of Swansea.
A United States Army veteran, he served during WWII. From 1941 to 1945 he was in Company B 246 Infantry in Ardennes, Central Europe, Normandy and Northern France. He was the owner and operator of Schneider Bus for over 25 years.
An active member of the Swansea community he was on the Swansea Finance and Water Commission Boards, Treasurer of Swansea Housing and School Facilities, on the School Building Committee at the Luther and Gardner Schools, Town Selectman. A member of the V.A. Post 2045 he was also on the Board of Voter Registry.
He is survived by two sons, John Schneider and his wife Ellen McCann and James Schneider and his wife Marilyn; sister, Mary Belanger; grandchildren, Kimberly Schneider and her fiancé Bryan McNamara and Brian Schneider and his wife Ashley; great-grandchildren, Olivia, Audrey, Isabelle and Lily and several nieces and nephews.
His Funeral will be held on Monday, March 26, 2018 at 11:30 AM in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest, 189 Gardners Neck Rd., Swansea. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Swansea.
