The gift of God is Eternal life through Jesus Christ, our Lord
~ Romans 6:23
With broken hearts, we the family of LEO DAVID PELLETIER regret to announce his passing in Surrey, British Columbia on December 9, 2023.
Leo, the fifth youngest of 12 children, was born and raised in Estevan, Saskatchewan, where he was part of the first graduating classes from ECS high school. With the desire to be a teacher, Leo left Estevan for Regina, entering the University of Regina. Yet, his love of outdoors and family quickly drew him to work in Vancouver at UBC Plant Science. This employment provided him with the outdoors that he craved, as well as his love of family, where he resided and helped support his older sister Dorothy and her young family. Leo's love of interacting with people led him through various retail businesses, including managing a high-end shoe store (where he spoiled his sisters with expensive shoes as gifts), participating in a family-owned Auto Body Shop with his brothers Leonard and Marcel, and eventually managing several Government of British Columbia liquor stores, from which he retired in 2008.
He thrived in the great outdoors: the Prairies, the Mountains, and the Ocean, and engaged in all aspects including cross country running, hiking, downhill skiing, and mountain climbing. Ultimately, his passion focused him on tennis, where he met many of his lifelong friends. He could often be seen walking with his tennis racket looking for a formidable foe to vanquish, or simply running the sea wall in Stanley Park.
Leo is predeceased by his parents Leo and Mary Germaine Pelletier along with siblings Yvonne and Lawrence Charlebois, Leonard Pelletier, Wilbert Pelletier, Loretta and Andrew Himmelspach, Dorothy Neighbour, Alvina and Butch Lewis, Margaret Anton, Marcel Pelletier; nephews Derrick Anton, Albert Neighbour, Scott Lewis and Ron Sopp; niece Wendy Curtis; and great nephew Michael J. Sopp.
Leo will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his surviving sisters and their respective families; Linda and Kent Sopp, Brenda and Blair Heinz, Rhonda and Lloyd Metz; brothers-in-law Ab Neighbour and Gary Anton; sisters-in-law Marlene Pelletier, and Amber Pelletier; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends (including his lifelong friends Graham and Bill).
Leo’s family extends our sincere thanks to Dr. Jasmine Hall, ND for her exemplary care and compassion.
Please look for future announcements regarding Leo’s Celebration of Life.
