Mrs. Irene Iva Hassell Breaks

Irene passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 6, 2011, in her 80th year with family members at her side in Langley, BC. She is pre- deceased by her daughter Susan Eva Breaks who passed away in 1995.

Irene was born on March 1, 1931 in Chilliwack, BC. She was the youngest child of Robert and Mabel (Pearson) Hassell and she had six siblings, Dorothy (Hassell) Henry, Robert Hassell, Reginald Hassell, Lawrence Hassell, Lois Hassell, and Richard Hassell. She grew up in White Rock and after high school attended hairdressing school. Irene worked in this profession for a brief time until her marriage to the love of her life John (known as Jack) Breaks on June 1, 1950. Jack operated a land clearing business with his brothers Bill and George.

Irene and Jack had four children Jack (Paulette), Susan, Glen (Gina), and Shari (Tom) Lyle. They raised their family in White Rock and then moved to a beautiful farm in South Langley where they enjoyed the last 31 one years together. Irene and Jack celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with their family at home last summer. Irene was a devoted Mother and Grandmother. She had seven grandchildren Kristina, Andrea, Sarah, Daniel, Joanna, Robert, and Michael. She is survived by her loving husband John (Jack), her two brothers Robert and Reginald, her three children Jack, Glen and Shari and her seven grandchildren.

A Celebration of Irene’s Life will be held at Victory Memorial Park Funeral Centre 14831- 28th Ave, Surrey, BC on Sunday, March 13, 2011 at 2:00pm.
